The Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund a sequel to iconic PC RPG Wasteland is now in full swing, with over $250,000 raised at time of writing.
For those of you not in the know, the original Wasteland was handily one of the best and most influential RPGs ever made. Haven't heard of it? Maybe you're a bit more familiar with its spiritual successor: Fallout. Yep, just about everything that the Fallout games did amazingly well — a persistent world, recuritable NPCs, tough moral choices — Wasteland did first.
Now, co-creator Brian Fargo wants to develop Wasteland 2, and he's looking to the fans to help make that happen. He's looking to stay as true to the original as possible, with a team that includes the first game's lead designers and a storyline penned by Fallout co-creator Jason Anderson. If there was ever a chance for a game to get a worthy sequel, this is it.
If the allure of another Wasteland isn't enough to draw you in, they're also offering an impressive selection of rewards for anyone who donates to the project, including copies of the game (both digital and boxed), access to an early Steam beta, autographed concept art, and a chance to have an NPC in the game named in your honor. The top tier, which, at $10,000, is admittedly out of most folks' price range, will get you into an in-game shrine and access to an exclusive private party with the developers.
At the moment, things look very promising, with the campaign already well on the way to its $900,000 goal. Why not head over and pitch in a few dollars of your own?
