Gearbox has released the cinematic launch trailer for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 had officially launched since yesterday, and we already saw it breaking records. But this trailer is clearly made to win lapsed players back to jump into the game with their friends.
A Really Short Rundown
The trailer starts showing the Vault Hunters literally leaping into the fray. We also jump straight into Kairos, as they take on the Timekeeper and his forces head on.
We get some action setpieces showing Harlowe, Rafa, Amon, and Vex one by one. The camera also makes sure to focus on Mad Moxxi and Claptrap, and we also get a nice look at some of the bad guys you’ll be farming.
We did try and look, but if the other NPCs such as Defiant Caulder or Amara were hiding in that trailer, we didn’t catch them. We’re sure sharper eyes will be pointing out where they were.
The trailer ends with the gang checking on Claptrap after he took a huge fall, only to jump back into the fight.
This Gearbox Game’s Style Is Its Substance
We don’t have to litigate the crimes and mistakes of Borderlands 3 that much anymore. It’s clear that Gearbox was paying attention to all the feedback from the fans, and set about to make things right.
From what reviewers have been saying, Gearbox has struck the balance right. They’ve toned down the comedy, and even deescalated on pushing their fan favorite characters into the story. Everything inessential was pared down to focus on the game design itself.
Is It Gearbox’s Time To Shine Again?
But even more than that, it appears that Gearbox was not hiding in some ivory tower after all. We’re in 2025, where the rise and fall of Destiny 2 left fans despairing.
We’ve also seen other AAAs throw their hat into the ring with their own monumental failures, such as Xbox Game Studios’ Redfall or WB Games’ Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
If it seemed like the end of looter shooter was imminent, Gearbox has come in to say no. But Gearbox’s vision for looter shooters seems to defy this trend to focus so much on the monetization and the live service push, at least for now.
We have already seen it. Disgruntled and bored Destiny 2 fans are checking Borderlands 4 out, and they like what they’re seeing. Sony may find that before Bungie can get their act together, that they could already be overtaken by another giant in the genre.
