See the Last Overwatch Short – “Hero”

May 22, 2016 by Nick Monroe

“You’re one of those heroes, aren’t you?” “Not anymore.”

The last of four Overwatch shorts was published online. “Hero” takes us to a far off Spanish town called “Dorado”.

A teenage girl is tasked by her mother to go out and get some flour. But the two seem to get in many arguments, as the girl is shouting at her mother as she leaves. The Mother says that she raised the girl on the tales of the Overwatch heroes, to give her hope. The girl crosses paths with three thugs, that are beating up on a robot. She tries to walk by them unnoticed, but the thugs see her and (forcibly) offer her the chance to smash the robot herself. She’s reluctant, and the thugs then take her money and flee the area. The girl rushes to follow them, and she ends up in the middle of one of their hideouts.

But then – the girl appears to not be alone. As the shadowy crusader Soldier: 76 is seen taking out the thugs one by one. The thieves notice, and they mount a counterattack against the vigilante unsuccessfully. They escape on a truck, throwing a grenade towards Soldier: 76. It flies past, and lands at the feet of the girl. 76 jumps to rescue the girl from the explosion at the very last second, saving her life. The girl rushes home with excitement on her face, eager to tell her mother about the events of the day.

This is the last of the Overwatch shorts, but if you wanted to catch up on any of the previous ones in the four part series, you can find a link to each of them below.

  • March 23rd – “Recall”
  • April 5th – “Alive”
  • May 16th – “Dragons”

While it may not seem like essential viewing for any Overwatch fans, these animated shorts provided more backstory and emotional connections to some of the characters. In the long term, this effort by Blizzard will definitely payoff in their favor.

Overwatch begins it’s global rollout at the same time everywhere in the world on either May 23rd or 24th, depending on your time zone. It’ll be available on either PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
