When Hideo Kojima left Konami, there was a ton of excitement to see what this first project would end up being. Death Stranding was a brand-new IP and a game that captivated players worldwide. While we prepare for the sequel installment to land in the marketplace, we have a couple of other projects attached to this franchise. One of those is a recently unveiled animated movie.
The news of the animated movie is rather new. We only learned about this project a few weeks ago. This is something different from the other live-action project unveiled as being in the works by A24. When the news broke about the animated feature, there wasn’t much to go off of, but now, thanks to Deadline, we’re getting some new bits of information to share.
For instance, we know that the man responsible for the screenplay is Aaron Guzikowski. Their latest works come from Raised by Wolves, a TV series that spanned eighteen episodes. Now, his goal would be to deliver a compelling storyline that viewers would want to sit and watch. However, don’t expect a carbon copy of the storyline told in the video game.
Instead, it’s noted that this is an original story, and it will be targeted at adults. According to a report from Deadline, the storyline appears to be set in the aftermath of global explosions, which kick off the premise of the Death Stranding video game.
Of course, we are still a good ways off from this Death Stranding animated feature hitting the theaters or streaming services. What we are not far away from is the upcoming sequel installment. As mentioned, we have Death Stranding 2: On the Beach coming our way. Players can expect it to arrive on June 26, 2025. When it does launch into the marketplace, you’ll find it exclusively on the PlayStation 5 platform.
