Resident Evil fans are waiting for news to come out for Resident Evil 9. It wasn’t long ago that the community believed Capcom was making teases that an announcement was coming soon. However, while Capcom remains silent on this installment, there was news from an insider that gives us a little more insight into the development team’s current plans for this game.
If you recall, we just heard from Dusk Golem the other day. This insider noted that Resident Evil 9 started development in 2017. That first build was also drastically different from the build they have today. Essentially, that initial build was meant to be an open-world multiplayer game.
However, looking for more insight, Dusk Golem answered a few questions about the current production. For instance, one follower asked about Capcom’s ambitions for this installment, and Dusk Golem stated that this was already a very ambitious game. With plans to see it launch in 2026, the game will have been in the development cycle the longest in the entire series.
Capcom wants to push the quality, content, graphics, audio, and everything in between. Their hope is that this installment will be the first non-remake Resident Evil game to hit a 90+ Metacritic. So, expect this game to be a very big deal when it finally launches into the marketplace.
The insider also shared that we’re going back to a third-person perspective. Since Resident Evil 7, the mainline installments have been centered around a first-person perspective. That said, the insider also noted that he had heard other rumors that there would be an optional first-person camera mode. However, they couldn’t verify this as this information didn’t come from their sources directly.
Again, as it stands, we don’t have any official marketing materials to highlight this game. We’ll have to wait a little longer and hope Capcom offers a glimpse of what’s to come before 2025 wraps up.
