The Nintendo Switch 2 is nearly here. It’s the company’s next big console offering, and as you, I’m sure, are already aware, it’s retaining the same overall setup as its predecessor. We know that the device will be portable and have a dock to enjoy games on your television display. That said, some players were wondering if their original Nintendo Switch consoles could use the same dock.
This Switch 2 dock looks to bring in some overall enhancements. There’s a built-in fan to help keep the console cool, while the device can also bring in 4K gaming for those with a compatible display. Meanwhile, we know that the original Switch will be smaller overall than the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Still, some wonder if we could also see the original Switch use the new dock; unfortunately, that won’t be the case.
Thanks to Nintendo Everything, we’re discovering that Nintendo has updated its Japanese website to focus on the Nintendo Switch 2 dock. According to the website, only the Switch 2 will be able to dock, and all original Switch models, including the OLED versions, will not be compatible.
I’m sure that will be a bummer for those who want to continue using their original Switch device without having multiple docks set up around their television display. At any rate, at least we have confirmation now before the console drops into the marketplace.
As mentioned, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console is set to arrive in the marketplace on June 5, 2025. Earlier today we reported on a comment made by Nintendo of America’s president, Doug Bowser, on how Nintendo settled on that date. However, we have also reported that some pre-orders through Nintendo might not guarantee your console will arrive on the official release date. You can read more about that right here.
