Nintendo is hopeful that the next console release will be a big one. The Switch 2 is quickly approaching its release date for players worldwide. While it took some time for some markets to gain access to pre-order the device, we know that the launch is still set to arrive on time. However, if you were wondering why Nintendo opted to pick June 5, 2025, in particular for its release date, Doug Bowser offered a quick comment.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to arrive at the start of June. However, thanks to Nintendo Everything, we’re finding out that the Nintendo of America president, Doug Bowser, offered insight into how they picked the release date. This shred of information actually comes from an earlier interview this month on NPR. During the conversation with Doug Bowser, it was asked why they settled on the June 5, 2025, release date.
We like to think that the year is a year and that there are no specific time frames when you should or must launch video games. And so, as we looked at the games that we had prepared and ready to launch with the hardware, we thought June was a very good timing. It’s the start of summer season, and obviously, with a Nintendo Switch 2, you have a device that you can both play at home and play at home docked like a gaming console, or you can take it out of the dock and take it on the go. So it’s a perfect game for summer travel. – Doug Bowser
According to Doug Bowser, there wasn’t a specific date or period that Nintendo is being cautious of. Instead, it looks like it just came down to when the video games and hardware were ready. That said, there are some benefits to this date. As Doug noted, this is right at the start of summer, which ultimately means you’ll have a new device you can take during your summer travels.
Kids will be exiting schools for the year, and with family vacations planned or just having a lazy day at home, you can enjoy this new game console. That’s one of the big benefits of this game console release, as it retains the original Nintendo Switch setup. You’ll either be able to dock it at home and use your television display, or you can take it on the go.
Of course, even if you managed to get a pre-order for the Nintendo Switch 2, you might not get a unit at launch. You can read more about the alarming concerns some players are now dealing with right here.
