The Molasses Flood has officially confirmed that they were being absorbed fully into CD Projekt Red. If you don’t recall, this studio first got started back in 2014, with it mainly being spawned from previous employees of Irrational Games, Harmonix, and Bungie. Their first release came shortly after its initial formation when we got The Flame in the Flood.
Since then, the studio has managed to produce a survival adventure game called Drake Hollow in 2020. However, their time as an independent studio ended in 2021. That is when CD Projekt Red acquired the team, giving them the task of creating a spin-off from The Witcher franchise. We still don’t know too much about the game, which is dubbed Project Sirius.
We knew that this game was set within The Witcher universe and would have a multiplayer component. However, today, we’re finding out that the studio was fully absorbed into CD Projekt Red, as noted in a post on the official website for The Molasses Flood. Likewise, the studio’s co-founder took to LinkedIn to offer their statement.
Damian Isla noted that this was a good and healthy thing for the studio. By going this route, the studio could remove some organizational barriers. Likewise, this was expected for a long time. That said, Damian Isla noted that he decided not to follow the rest of the team into this transitional period.
Instead, they have opted to step aside. Work is still progressing for The Witcher project The Molasses Flood team had been working on. However, we’re not sure where Damian Isla will be heading next. That said, it was noted that the merger will not affect the availability and distribution of either The Flame in the Flood or Drake Hollow. So, if you have yet to try those games out, they will remain available.
