Nintendo fans eagerly counted down the days until April 2, 2025, arrived. At the start of the year, we finally got our first look at the Nintendo Switch 2. It was during this overview trailer of the console that we got confirmation that a Nintendo Direct presentation that fully focused on the Switch 2 would be coming today. While we got plenty of news on games and the console hardware, there was a small update for those who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online.
The folks at Nintendo are bringing the Nintendo GameCube to the online service. There is a small catch here, as you won’t get access to the GameCube games through the current Nintendo Switch console. Instead, this is an exclusive for the Switch 2. Likewise, you’ll have to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier.
When the Nintendo Switch 2 launches, you’ll find the Nintendo GameCube available. We don’t have a full list of what games will be available right away, but some of the highlights included The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soul Calibur II, and F-Zero GX. Meanwhile, some games were shown off that could be coming later on, including Super Mario Sunshine, Chibi-Robo, and Luigi’s Mansion.
This might entice some players to go ahead and subscribe to this subscription service if they pick up the Nintendo Switch 2. We still have plenty of time before the console becomes available for purchase. Nintendo is aiming to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 into the marketplace on June 5, 2025. So, we should hopefully learn a little more about the GameCube offerings before that date arrives. That said, we know that a wireless GameCube controller will also be available on that day if you’re keen on enjoying these classic games with a controller that matches the original console release.
