Starfield has been around for a good little while now for the Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms. When Bethesda first announced this science fiction RPG, fans were ecstatic. However, it wasn’t too long after that Microsoft was able to swoop in and acquire Bethesda through the ZeniMax Media deal. As a result, Starfield quickly pivoted toward an Xbox-exclusive release. Now, one industry insider suggests that a PlayStation 5 port release is nearly here.
Microsoft might have kept the mindset of keeping exclusives under their Xbox umbrella for console releases initially. However, it wasn’t too long ago that they changed their tune. Instead of going about the old ways of providing exclusives in hopes of selling consoles, they have instead gone mostly multiplatform. Not every game in their lengthy catalog has gone to rival platforms. Starfield, for instance, is still a Microsoft exclusive.
That should change soon, as a recent podcast upload featuring industry insider Tom Warren offered some new updates. While not official, Tom Warren has a solid track record and suggests that a PlayStation 5 port has been in the works for a long time. They even said that a release for the PlayStation 5 was supposed to happen with the Shattered Space DLC.
This PS5 port release didn’t come to fruition. While we didn’t get any insight as to why that is, Tom does state that it should be ready. It’s now believed we’ll get the port announcement during the next expansion release this year. Of course, again, take this as nothing more than a rumor right now, as we still don’t have any concrete details yet from Microsoft, Bethesda, or Sony on a port arrival date.
In the meantime, if you have yet to pick up Starfield on Xbox Series X/S or PC platforms, we do have Before You Buy coverage of the game. We’ll include that below, which we’ll give you some gameplay and our overall impressions.
