Sega has recently released their consolidated financial statements and thanks to Game Informer, we found out that while Sega’s sales are down, their profits are actually on the rise. This seems to be mostly because of Sega focusing on fewer video game titles rather than pumping out IPs.
According to the financial reports, Sega is seeing their sales go down a total of 5.1 percent which totals to $3.2 billion. However, the company is also seeing a rise in their profits with a total of $49.3 million. This seems that Sega is able to raise profits simply because they are focusing on fewer video game titles than before.
That, however, is another problem that gamers have chimed in about with Sega recently. Earlier this week, the Sega Europe YouTube channel posted a video that went over a few Twitter questions fans have sent in. The first one was due to European gamers receiving fewer video game titles than what Sega is publishing around the world.
There was also a mention of fans wanting Sega to make a return with some of their older IPs that hasn’t seen much development in practically decades. These video games include IP titles such as Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragon, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Comix Zone, Vectorman, Shinobi, among several others.
While fans have been asking Sega to return more towards their roots, the company did make mention that they are working on bringing out Shenmue I and its sequel, Shenmue II, as an HD remaster set before the release of Shenmue III. However, because the first two titles within the Shenmue series includes a number of licensed products, the Sega company will have to go in and make adjustments before they are able to release any HD ports. Furthermore, there was no confirmation that the company is in process of actually developing HD ports so as for now Shenmue III is the only game confirmed to be in-development.
