Amidst all the bad news that has been plaguing the gaming industry as of late, especially with the tale of layoffs and broken games at launch, there have been a few pieces of news that have been fun to talk about. Despite layoffs within its own company, NetEase has been crushing it with Marvel Rivals since its debut last year. The title took the team shooter genre and then threw in beloved and nice Marvel Comics characters to make it something fans of all ages would want to play. Sure enough, tens of millions have played the game so far, and many are hoping that it will remain of high quality for some time.
To that end, the first season of content brought in the Fantastic Four and other changes for gamers to try out. Sure, some were backpedaled on due to fan reactions, but the majority of them have stuck. That’s what has many gamers already excited for Season 2 and beyond, as gamers want to see what they can enjoy next.
In a chat with PC Gamer, Marvel Rivals director Guangyun Chen revealed that not only is Season 2’s content “ready,” but that 3&4’s content is heavily being worked on right now!
“We have invested a lot of resources into developing upcoming content, including new characters, new maps, new modes, and more. The content for Season 2 is ready and set to go. The designs for Seasons 3 and 4 have also been completed and are currently under intensive development! Overall, everything is progressing smoothly.”
Clearly! If you recall, the team promised that new content, meaning characters, would drop every six weeks, and they’ve maintained that promise so far via the Fantastic Four releases. Thus, we can likely expect announcements on Season 2 soon and who will be in it!
Oh, but that doesn’t mean that this will be all that happens in the game’s seasons. There will be other adjustments as well:
“Starting from Season 2, we will introduce new Team-Up skills with the seasonal update and adjust some existing ones. Together with seasonal overall balance adjustments, this will create a new combat environment and experience for the season.”
So, what can we make of all this? Simply put, NetEase is taking this game seriously, and they want it to be something players truly enjoy in the long term. They’ve already proven that they listen to fans and will adjust on the fly to help with certain things; all we have to do is hope that this continues going forward.
