CD Projekt Red is hard at work bringing out the next installment to the highly beloved The Witcher franchise. We know they are in full production with The Witcher 4, and we recently got our first look at the game. One of the big changes with this game is coming with its protagonist, as we’re trading in Geralt for Ciri.
Even though Ciri was trained under Geralt, she won’t be as rugged as Geralt. That was already evident in the first trailer we saw of the game. Thanks to Retbit, we’re finding out that a recent AnsweRED Podcast featuring some of the team at CD Projekt Red touched briefly on the combat. Don’t expect too much here, as the developers are still trying to keep things tight-lipped as they continue working through the game.
The comment came from CD Projekt Red senior communications manager Pawel Burza. During the conversation, Pawel noted a moment in the cinematic trailer where you witness Ciri pinning down the monster and doing this somersault maneuver before attacking. So you already sense that this character will feel more like a liquid in combat than Geralt.
That’s not to say Geralt wasn’t nimble, as Pawel noted. But playing through the previous Witcher games, it felt more like Geralt was a block, a solid force for the enemy to deal with. This shouldn’t be the case for the upcoming game with Ciri, but we’re still waiting to see actual gameplay footage.
There’s plenty we don’t know about the upcoming installment of this franchise. However, we know that The Witcher 4 will still see the return of Geralt. We’re just now sure how big of a role he’ll be playing this time around. Furthermore, Gwent fans can rest easily knowing this beloved minigame will also return in the upcoming installment.
