There is a new video game studio acquisition to confirm today. We’re still relatively early into the 2025 calendar year, so there might be plenty of acquisition news to look back on once we wrap the year up. However, one of the big new announcements today was that Rockstar Games has officially acquired Video Games Deluxe. This studio is based in Australia and has previously worked with Rockstar Games.
Video Games Deluxe has been around for a good while, and Brendan McNamara founded it. If the game doesn’t sound familiar to you, this is the founder behind the former Team Bondi studio, which delivered L.A. Noire in 2011 with Rockstar Games publishing. Since then, they have opened Video Games Deluxe, where they worked on L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files and aided in the development of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
Rockstar Games confirmed today that they had officially acquired the studio. This team will remain in Australia while undergoing a name change. From now on, Video Games Deluxe will be known as Rockstar Australia.
The press release that went out this morning didn’t provide much insight into what the team is currently working on. Odds are they have been aiding in Grand Theft Auto VI, the major release Rockstar Games has been chipping away at for several years now.
Of course, some might wonder if we’ll get another installment in the L.A. Noire franchise. At any rate, the main focus right now is ensuring Grand Theft Auto VI lands in the marketplace this year and has enough support to keep fans engaged for the long haul. Now, they’ll officially have additional resources to ensure a solid release and perhaps post-launch content. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Rockstar Games has been cooking up for this game.
