The Witcher 4 Dev Reaffirms There Are Plans For Gwent

February 28, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Well, there goes an obscene amount of time spent playing this card game again.

Like a lot of you, I cannot wait to play The Witcher 4. The game was unveiled to the masses just last year, and we’re eager to learn more about it. While it might be a little while before the development team is ready to share more details about what to expect from this installment, one developer replied to a fan asking if we’ll see the return of Gwent.

Gwent was a fast-paced card game that became a small minigame in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt; what surprised developers was how beloved this game was for players. You would find players just spending time enjoying Gwent, and it even led the developers at CD Projekt Red to make a standalone game for players to enjoy. If you don’t recall, it was back in 2018 that we received the official Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. While support for that game has ended officially, the developers still have plans to bring Gwent to the next Witcher installment.

Taking to X, a fan contacted Leszek Krupinski, the online services lead at CD Projekt Red. Asking if there were any plans to bring Gwent to The Witcher 4, Leszek confirmed that there are already plans for Gwent in the upcoming installment. However, they didn’t express anything about what the team had planned.

We have some plans for Gwent in W4 🙂

It’s not shocking to learn that Gwent is still being featured with as much popularity as the card game received from the previous installment. We’re certainly intrigued to learn what the developers have planned, but I guess we’ll have to wait in silence for now.

We haven’t seen anything new from the developers since the first announcement trailer, which dropped during The Game Awards 2024. But we had received some behind-the-scenes footage this week from developers working on the cinematic announcement trailer. While it didn’t highlight anything we didn’t already know about the game, it’s neat to see the process developers went through to convey the official reveal trailer.
