CD Projekt Red surprised the world when they unveiled the first trailer for the next installment of the beloved Witcher franchise. Taking to The Game Awards 2024, CD Projekt Red dropped the first trailer for The Witcher 4, and with it, we got confirmation that we’re stepping into the role of Ciri this time around. A few months after that grand trailer reveal dropped, CD Projekt Red released behind-the-scenes footage with the team as they talked about what went into the trailer.
The cinematic trailer was a joint effort with CD Projekt Red and Platige Image. We got a look at what the team wanted to focus on in terms of visuals and camera work. The goal was to tap into the source material while also giving viewers a feel of watching a movie. That wasn’t an easy task, as a lot of effort went into it, including using real footage and lenses to get an idea of how the trailer should look.
Meanwhile, they wanted to showcase a clear division between the two main characters, Ciri and Mioni. While Mioni was accepting of her destiny, Ciri fought fiercely against it, as we witnessed in The Witcher 3. From the trailer, you find Ciri still fighting against destiny and believing in traditions as she seeks to save Mioni from a gruesome fate.
What you might find interesting is also the motion capture sessions. If you recall, the cinematic scene does feature an intense monster battle. So you’ll get a better idea of how the battle was animated through motion capture, along with even some small tidbits on how they designed the beast.
This is one game that has a lot of hype built around it. Unfortunately, we’re not sure just when we’ll get our hands on the game. Developers are still chipping away at the title. But while we wait to learn when we can get our hands on The Witcher 4, you can check out the behind-the-scenes footage in the video we have embedded below.
