Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are not set for release this financial year, meaning they won’t launch before March 31st, 2017.
Square Enix confirmed the news during its latest earnings report earlier today, in which it reiterated that that World of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and the PlayStation 4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider will all be released this calendar year.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Nier Automata are all absent from the list, despite previous confirmation that the latter title is due for release this year.
A Square Enix spokesperson told VideoGamer.com that “the slide doesn’t feature the complete line-up of titles for the year”. This means Nier Automata could still be released this year but isn’t actual confirmation either way.
Square Enix – Major titles for FY ending Mar 2017:
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – August 23, 2016
- Final Fantasy XV – September 30, 2016
- Rise of the Tomb Raider – Holiday 2016
- World of Final Fantasy – 2016
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue – 2016
- SaGa SCARLET GRAVE – 2016 (Japan)
Additional unannounced titles may be announced at a later date.
A release window for Kingdom Hearts 3 has never been announced, though the game was revealed at E3 2013. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was revealed at E3 2015.
Voiceover work for Kingdom Hearts 3 hadn’t started by January of this year for at least one major character so perhaps it isn’t too surprising the game is still some way off. Final Fantasy 7 Remake meanwhile may have a different story to the original game’s and the next entry in the series, Final Fantasy 15, launches in September.
