Bethesda as a company is a curious one because they are known for making some of the most incredible titles ever, and yet, they’re also known for some pretty bad ones, and one incredibly boring one that they won’t ever admit is boring. They’re also the kings of not telling fans when their games are coming out until they absolutely know it’ll come out, or they’ll delay it just when we think we’re getting close to release. If you’re thinking all of this has been a build towards Elder Scrolls 6, you’re correct, as gamers are still waiting for this highly-anticipated open-world title to emerge.
However, we do have a bit of positive information for you today, as Bethesda is teaming up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation via a special charity auction. Within that auction will be a reward where you can get put into the upcoming game:
“This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity allows you to immortalize yourself in one of the most highly anticipated video games of all time, The Elder Scrolls 6. The Elder Scrolls series, developed by Bethesda Game Studios, is renowned for its vast open worlds, deep lore, and immersive storytelling. With this exclusive experience, you’ll work with the developers to create a custom character that will appear in the game, leaving your mark on the legendary franchise.”
To be clear, you won’t be a main character or anything of that tier, but you will be an NPC and one that will likely be given some prominence, so you’re not just a “random civilian’ that you can bump into during gameplay.
While this may sound like a “paltry reward,” you need to think of it like this. First, when were YOU last in a video game outside of a player-created avatar? Exactly. Second, this is a scenario where you’ll be able to go, “I’m in a video game,” and then point it out to everyone you know, and then others can go and find you in the space you’re put in.
Plus, remember, this is for charity, so this is absolutely “going to a great cause,” and thus is worth it even if you’re not going to be a “key part of the franchise’s lore.”
The twist, of course, is that while you will be honored in the game, you’ll still have to wait for it to come out! Bethesda, via Todd Howard, first announced the game at E3 2018 to “please fans,” but we’ve only received minor updates since then. That won’t change until Bethesda is ready to announce something.
