Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Dev Had Positive Experience Optimizing For Xbox Series S

February 11, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Optimization on the console helped other platforms.

When it comes to the latest generation of console platforms, the weakest link is the Xbox Series S. That’s not something hidden away from the public. It’s weaker in power, but it still offers the ability to enjoy the latest games. However, we can understand some developer frustration over dealing with the lower-tier power compared to the standard Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5. That said, when it comes to the developers behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Warhorse Studios, they seem to have a very positive experience with the platform.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was released just this past week, and it’s one of the big title hits this year. If you enjoyed the first game, then chances are you’ll love this installment. However, for this article, we wanted to focus on some new comments made by Warhorse Studios. Thanks to True Achievements, we’re finding out that on an episode of Iron Lords Podcast, Warhorse Studios’ international PR manager, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, spoke about optimizing for the Xbox Series S.

Xbox Series S helped KCD 2 devs optimizing the game for other platforms.

According to Tobias, the developers knew they had to dial things down for the platform. However, they had to be clever when programming and figuring out ways to save memory. They found that some of these methods to help the Series S run smoothly could be used for other platforms. It’s noted that this wasn’t a case where quality was being lowered on these platforms; instead, it was a focus on how to boost performance.

With so many reports on developers seemingly not enjoying having to optimize for the Xbox Series S, this was a nice change. It makes sense that focusing only on the Series S will help with other, more powerful platforms.

As stated earlier, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is now available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. If you would like our opinions on the gameplay experience, check out our Before You Buy video coverage in the video below.
