NetEase has revealed they’re giving their Spider-Man on Marvel Rivals the costume from Insomniac’s Spider-Man.

They posted this announcement on Twitter:
“Balance is a Process. Not a Destination
Marvel Rivals brings you the iconic Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Costume! To celebrate the arrival of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023) to PC, this costume radiates courage, responsibility, and resilience. Whether you’re soaring above the cityscape or battling foes in epic showdowns, channel your inner hero with this must-have look.
Release Date: January 29th at 18:00 PST | January 30th at 02:00 UTC
Be ready to save the city!”
As some fans have opined, Insomniac’s version of the Peter Parker Spider-Man suit closely resembles the original default costume in the game. But fans of Insomniac’s games will still get a burst of nostalgia from seeing their Parker in game. We don’t think those players should worry about other more distinct or interesting costumes that should have been added in instead. After all, cosmetics are literally the basis for NetEase’s monetization; they’re definitely adding in everything they can.
We do wonder if it would have been possible to add Insomniac’s Venom as a skin for Marvel Rivals’ Venom as well. Maybe the door should have been open for Miles Morales too, unless NetEase has plans to add him in in the future.
And yes, this will likely be the only way that Xbox players can get to play Insomniac’s Spider-Man on their Xbox consoles. While we wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Sony emulates Microsoft and brings their games to competing platforms, we have no reason to believe they’ll be doing that for now.
Speaking of Insomniac, this probably sets the precedent that Insomniac’s take of Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine will also be making it to Marvel Rivals when that game releases. Hopefully, NetEase has similar arrangements set up for when Blade, Iron Man, and Black Panther get their respective games released by Electronic Arts and Bethesda.
As the big Marvel franchise video game of this generation, Marvel Games is likely to make Marvel Rivals a regular part of the promotion of their other upcoming Marvel related titles. And maybe they are also planning some coordination with some upcoming MCU movies and shows, and the few other Marvel licensed games out there now. We think there’s a lot of opportunity in synergizing between Marvel Rivals and Marvel Snap, for example.
But with all that said, you can check out the official announcement trailer below.
