After a slew of rumors suggested that we were getting a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, yesterday ended with disappointment. Normally, Nintendo offers a day’s notice before they drop something like a Nintendo Direct. However, today, they shadow-dropped the first trailer showcasing the upcoming console.
It was a real surprise to see the sudden announcement that Nintendo’s most anticipated console would just get a shadow drop trailer rather than alert fans when to tune in to a special presentation. Regardless, it’s finally here, and while it was brief, we learned a few things about the new console. Overall, it looked like Nintendo wanted to offer a similar experience to what they provided with the original Nintendo Switch while enhancing some of the areas of the console.
For instance, it appears to be an overall bigger device, so expect the Joy-Cons to be a bit bigger than the current Nintendo Switch offering. Meanwhile, located on the rear of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, you’ll find a new hinge to help prop the console up if you’re not playing it in docked mode.
The rumored magnetic Joy-Con setup seems accurate, but we’re waiting for Nintendo to emerge with finer details. Fortunately, it shouldn’t be too long before Nintendo shares more, as a new Nintendo Direct presentation was set to take place on 4.2.2025. So, you’ll want to mark down your calendars for that presentation.
Unfortunately, much like the rumors we had previously heard, there weren’t any breakdowns on video games outside some gameplay footage showcasing Mario Kart in action. Likewise, it’s reported that most original Nintendo Switch games should work on the device both digitally and physically. However, we know that Nintendo aims to release this new console into the marketplace at some point this year.
For now, while we wait for more information to emerge online, you can view the first Nintendo Switch 2 trailer in the video we have embedded below.
