Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco Entertainment have officially revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker.
In the game, you play as Coen, a half vampire, half human hybrid in medieval Europe. In this world, vampires have taken advantage of the weakness of Europe’s medieval empires in the light of the Black Plague to take over. Rebel Wolves haven’t shared all the story details yet, but they did show a lot in their first cinematic trailer.
The trailer shows a still human Coen running from a lord deep in the night, hunting him down for harboring his sister. The lord has decided to spare none who have the plague to stop its spread, but just as he acts on his intent to have the young girl killed, vampires swoop in to attack their party.
After taking the lord and his underlings down, Coen asks the vampires for help, and mysteriously, they don’t attack him, and cure his sister. Of course, as you can imagine, that cure might just have been worse than the disease, but this is the extent of the story that we know as of now.
But even with this limited information, we can already see how Rebel Wolves have acted to distinguish The Blood of Dawnwalker from their staff’s previous work, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as well as Bandai Namco’s other dark fantasy action RPG developers, FromSoftware. Rebel Wolves seems to promise a new take on vampire themed video games that’s just different enough that it could make its own mark with fans and in the industry.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For now, it does not have a release date, and it doesn’t look like this was planned for the Switch 2, at least initially.
We reported on Rebel Wolves first revealing themselves to the public around this time last year, and then at the end of 2024, when they revealed Bandai Namco signed on to publish their title. We mused then that the studio, made of many former CD Projekt RED staff, must have impressed Bandai Namco with their presentation, and we now see how effective that elevator pitch was.
And so we seem to be slated to receive continuing incremental updates for the game, but it isn’t quite clear if we can expect this game to release soon, or if it may take long enough to reach the 10th generation of PlayStation and Xbox after all.
The trailer is age restricted, and for good reason. We can’t share it below but you can watch it here.
