Unique Leaker Potentially Teases Upcoming Nintendo Direct

January 10, 2025 by Todd Black

…well…they do have things to talk about…

As the new year marches on, many are trying to get whatever information they possibly can about the Nintendo Switch 2. To the point where The Big N themselves had to debunk some of them because of how they’ve been spreading all over the internet. Naturally, this is just getting fans into more of a fervor, as they want the announcement for the new console sooner rather than later. We can’t blame them for that. One thing we can blame is leakers who are stirring up the pot by saying things like a Nintendo Direct could be coming our way soon enough.

This very unique “leak” comes from Walmart Gaming Canada, who asked fans following its Twitter handle when they expect a new Direct to drop this year. At first, that sounds rather simple and nothing to read into. However, on Reddit, many have pointed out that something is getting ready to happen when Walmart Gaming Canada makes a post like this. The handle has apparently made many correct teases and predictions in the past, and that has some excited.

However, some have also noted that it could merely be a trolling action. So, as always, you should take things with a grain of salt.

Now that we're a week into 2025…

Looking at this objectively, there are two reasons to think that a Nintendo Direct could be coming. The first is that during the OG Switch era, Nintendo has almost always had a Direct in the first few months of the year, with February being the main one to feature them in. The second reason is that Nintendo has plenty to talk about between the OG Switch and the Switch 2.

Pokemon Legends Z-A, Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, Metroid Prime 4, and possibly more are coming to the Switch before the transition. Thus, it would behoove them to talk about those titles and hype them up so that they don’t get “lost in the shuffle” amidst the new system’s launch.

Many are hoping that a massive presentation is imminent for the Nintendo Switch 2. This presentation will break down the console, the release date and price, what games will be on it at launch, in the near future, in the next year, and so on. A Direct could be the way to announce all of it, or they could do a grander presentation like they did back in 2017.

Something will happen soon, there’s no doubt about that. The only question is… “When?”
