Uncharted 4’s Nolan North And Troy Baker Reflect On Playing The Drake Brothers

May 9, 2016 by Stephen Daly

Leaving Nathan Drake behind is a “bittersweet” experience for Nolan North.

Sony has released the full version of The Brothers Drake video they teased last week, in which Nolan North and Troy Baker reflect on playing Nathan and Sam Drake in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Uncharted 4 is the fifth game featuring North as Nathan Drake while Sam makes an appearance for the first time in the series and surprises Nate after a fifteen year absence. The 12-minute video was filmed at an Italian castle and sees the duo discuss their long-running connection to the Uncharted series.

North, who’s voiced Drake for around a decade, says the new game’s launch is a “bittersweet” experience and jokes that he’ll need Baker to give him a job in the future as Naughty Dog has said this is the final Nathan Drake game.

While North originally saw the games simply as a job, Baker’s first experience was a fan.

“It was cool; it was a cool game,” North said of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. He didn’t truly appreciate their impact until he saw his son playing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

“He turned to me, and he goes, ‘That — that’s you!'” North explained. “And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I know, I did the voice.’ And he goes, ‘No, but that’s you!’ And he had seen something that I didn’t see, because it’s just a different perspective. And when I saw it through his eyes, it’s a thing that kind of registered for me.”

“You saw the work; he saw the character,” Baker replied.

Baker added that he was thrilled to come aboard and work on a series he’d long been a fan of.

“For me, to come in and not just be a redshirt, but to come in and be the brother, and see how this relationship fits into the whole story, is … I don’t want to say it’s the coolest character in the franchise, but it’s really cool because to me,” Baker added. “It gives so much more dimension to Nate, to Sully, to Elena, to Cutter, to everybody who’s been in this whole thing.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End launches tomorrow, May 10th, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
