As Nintendo gets ever closer to the unveiling of the Switch 2, or whatever the console will be called, people are looking to some of the company’s “big developers” or teams and pondering what they’ll make for the next system. After all, Nintendo is coming off of an incredible high right now with the main Switch’s sales, and they know that to try and make the system successful, they need the various developers who have made great games for them to come out and make equally great ones for the Switch 2. Monolith Soft is easily one of the teams that has the potential to make early hits for the upcoming platform.
To that end, Insider Stealth posted on Twitter that Monolith Soft intends to make “more regular updates” so that people will “learn more about them.” What that means is a bit up for debate; however, the picture that the team posted alongside the message was of three of the company’s most popular characters. That seems to imply that the updates will be about future games or could be insights into how certain past games were made. Either way, the team is clearly trying to be more visible going forward, and that’s not a bad idea, as that could lead to more game sales.
Regardless of what this message means, many are interested in what Monolith will make next. We know for a fact that the next project the team will release is the port/upgraded version of its Wii U title. Many had been asking for this for a long time, as it was the only one of the acclaimed RPG series not to reach the Switch. In fact, with this being the Switch’s last main year, many wondered if the game would be the only “big Wii U title” to not get ported. Thankfully, it was announced to not only arrive in March on the Switch, but it’ll come with all-new content.
That’s important, as the Wii U title ended on one heck of a cliffhanger, and people have been waiting basically a decade to learn the truth about what it meant and how things could move forward. Thus, this definitive edition is more important than ever before.
However, it’s also inevitable that Monolith will be working on its next title in the RPG line or, possibly, working on something entirely new. The possibilities are very much open for them, and the team’s President has said in the best that he doesn’t think the team has reached its “full potential” yet.
