Today was the biggest NVIDIA reveal event.
Everything you thought you knew about graphics cards? Forget about it. You aren’t ready for the upcoming gaming future, but it’s coming. NVIDIA revealed their latest greatest graphics cards today with the 1080 and 1070 pieces.
The 1080 is twice as fast as the Titan X, as well as having three times the energy efficiency. The 9 Teraflops GTX 1080 comes with 8GB GDDRX5, and prices at $599 MSRP or $699 Founders edition. May 27th.
The GTX 1070 is still faster than a Titan X but comes at a more affordable price range. $379 MSRP, or $449 for the Founders Edition. June 10th.
But that wasn’t the only thing announced at the NVIDIA presentation. ANSEL is a new technology dedicated to in-game photography. The first feature of it is a free camera, built straight into the driver. The second feature is filters, helping colorization and tonality control. The third is EXR dumping data for photoshop special effects. The fourth is super resolution, allowing you to capture images at levels of a “thousand iPhone 6’s”. The final feature is full 360 degree capture.
They used The Witness as an example of how the video game screen capturing software works. You can also use Google Cardboard and the NVIDIA app to get a similar experience right from your phone (But you can also just use your phone to view screenshot content). Ansel will come to The Division, Lawbreakers, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Paragon, No Man’s Sky, and Unreal Tournament.
The next thing NVIDIA showed off was VRWorks Audio. The basic idea is that they’re introducing physics into VR for the first time. They’re connecting the NVIDIA PhysX into VR, having the world interact with you. Geometric physically modeled acoustic simulator.
“When you walk into a hallway, it sounds like a hallway. When you walk into a stadium it sounds like a stadium.”
To help show it off, they made a VR Funhouse demonstration.
