It was recently confirmed that the Mortal Kombat trailer leaked a few days ago was in fact a trailer for an upcoming Mortal Kombat Movie, but there is even more good news for Mortal Kombat fans out there. A brand new Mortal Kombat game has been announced which is set to make its way into stores in 2011. The game is being developed by a new team, NetherRealm Studios, under the guidance of Mortal Kombat’s creator Ed Boon.

The game will stay close to its 2D roots, but promises a reinvention to the 2D fighting mechanic. The game also adds tag-team modes in addition to the standard one-on-one, including a coop arcade mode. Iconic characters from previous Mortal Kombat games will also be making a return to the series.
