Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Coming To PC In 2025, Leaked DLC Is Cancelled

October 21, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

It’s clear that the leaks harmed Insomniac.

Sony has officially announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the PC.

In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza confirmed the announcement from Marvel’s New York Comic Con panel this weekend. The game was ported by Nixxes, as expected, and it is arriving to both Steam and the Epic Game Store on January 30, 2025.

They also revealed Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions coming to both platforms. The Standard Edition comes with all the free updates that came to the PlayStation 5, while the Digital Deluxe Edition offers early unlocks for some items, 5 extra skill points, additional photo mode items, and 5 exclusive suits each for Peter and Miles.

Unfortunately, Espinoza also confirmed something that Insomniac never officially announced or confirmed. In his words:

“While we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re delighted to bring all of our previously released post-launch content to the PC version, including New Game+, new suits and color variants, Photo Mode features, and more.”

As you may already know, Insomniac was victimized by a ransomware hack in late 2023, leaking information from the studio and their parent company, Sony. As Game4index tweeted out, the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC roadmap that was part of the leaks has been cancelled.

While we did notice that Sony and Insomniac missed the landmarks in that roadmap, there was still a hope that we could see that DLC get released. January 2024 Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update had data hinting that Marvel character Beetle, who was in that leaked roadmap, could be added to the game.

It’s certainly disappointing news, but this whole situation raises questions about leaks, as well as Insomniac’s and Sony’s current financial viability.

Gamers now have to wonder if the DLC was cancelled because it was leaked, or if it was because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not meet sales expectations. We also know from the leaks that the game had a $ 315 million budget, and that it sold over 11 million units as of April 2024.

It also sold 2.5 million units in the 1st 24 hours, setting the record for fastest selling PlayStation Studios game. Unfortunately, that $ 315 million is higher than any Spider-Man movie made so far, and while it’s clear that the game broke even, expectations were also clearly at a much higher bar.

Insomniac is one of many Sony video game studios that suffered from layoffs, and unfortunately, that also leaked out, before the employees found out. We learned a lot about the industry from these leaks, but we should definitely be uncomfortable that we know this much at all.
