We have an update on Jurassic Park: Survival, but it isn’t exactly official.
As shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit by user Jasonvsfreddyvs, the website FilmAffinity has given it a release date of 2025. FilmAffinity does keep tabs on the potential release dates of films and video games. Since Jurassic Park: Survival itself is based on a pretty famous movie, it’s easy to see that they would have an interest in this title too.
The game already received an age rating in Australia, but this time, it doesn’t look like that was a sign that the game was being prepared for release. It is absolutely possible for such rating organizations to make early ratings, and then revise them when they get the final product.
Australia’s rating indicated that the title would have strong horror themes, It’s possible that they gave this rating early because they were given access to cutscenes or some current builds.
The game’s developer, Saber Interactive did make it clear that the game would not be ready to release this year. However, an extra amount of uncertainty came to the project when Saber chose to spun off from Embracer.
Saber is certainly looking good right now, after the successful launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. That game’s positive reception is a good harbinger that the other projects they have in development, including this game, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and possibly even the Knights of the Old Republic remake, will also turn out well.
But getting back to Jurassic Park: Survival, we have to imagine that Saber is working closely with Amblin Entertainment to coordinate this title’s connections with the Jurassic Park movies. Now, we don’t think the fans will be as obsessed with Jurassic Park canon as much as the Star Wars and Marvel fans could be.
But since the game’s premise ties it so closely to the first movie, the fans will want to see the connections between the game and the movie, in the same way that fans experienced it in Alien Isolation.
For what it’s worth, Spielberg and other directors did take their liberties with the Chrichton novels, to the degree that Jurassic Park III isn’t even an adaptation anymore. But the fans will still notice if, for example, the park’s layout doesn’t line up with what we’ve seen in the film.
But we think Jurassic Park: Survival will shape up to be one of the big releases of the year that it will come out, whether that is 2025 or beyond. A studio at the top of their game, and a film franchise that’s still popular (in spite of Gareth Edwards’ best efforts) is a potent combination if they get it right.
