Day 1 Studios has announced that it will be "returning to its roots," with its next project, courtesy of a brief and (not so) enigmatic teaser trailer.
The 30-second clip, titled Storm Warning, features grainy footage of a big stompy robot foot, accompanied by the tagline, "In 2012, Day 1 Studios returns to its roots."
Though Day 1 might be better known for its recent work on Fracture and the F.E.A.R. franchise, the developer's debut title was the 2002 Xbox-exclusive MechAssault. One of the first games to feature Xbox Live support, MechAssault was well received at the time, as was the 2004 follow-up, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf.
So, it doesn't exactly take a PhD to do the math on this this one. In all likelihood, we'll be seeing another MechAssault make its Xbox 360 debut by the end of the year, though there's a chance it'll wind up being a new IP instead. The MechAssault games were set in the BattleTech universe, so there's a chance they might be forced to go generic if the license falls through.
