Firing employees upon the completion of a game is a terrible practice, and it's one that continues to make its mark on the game industry. The latest studio to be hit hard by layoffs is Starbreeze, which recently completed its work on the Syndicate reboot.
Following the completion of the game, which is set to be published by Electronic Arts, the Swedish developer cut 25 of its employees reports Gamesindustry.biz.
In addition to the layoffs, Starbreeze board member Peter Tornquist will resign from his post.
"It is sad that we are forced to make staff cutbacks affecting employees. But we have to reduce staff after the final delivery of the Syndicate," offered Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze.
We speculate that these layoffs may mean that the studio has yet to line up a future title to work on, and it puts the development of future content or DLC for Syndicate in doubt.
Syndicate is set for release next week on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
