Earlier this month, professional skater Tony Hawk was said to be in talks with Activision regarding the 25th anniversary of the Pro Skater franchise. While the celebrity teased that “something” was being planned to celebrate, no specifics were mentioned. This past weekend, however, Hawk marked the original game’s anniversary on his Instagram page along with an interesting comment.
“My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders,” Hawk wrote. “I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and – as some have argued – change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution).
It definitely changed the course of my life, and is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day.”
After thanking both Activision and Neversoft for the creation of the title, Hawk said something that has many players excited.
“I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series, but there will be a future,” Hawk concluded.
This gives fans even more hope about a new title or remaster following the skaters remarks last month. “I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I’ve been talking to Activision again, we’re working on something,” Hawk said. “It will be something the fans will truly appreciate.”
In May, video game historian Liam Robertson reported that Activision rejected a pitch for Vicarious Visions to work on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, despite the incredibly positive reaction to the first remake, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. Vicarious Visions officially merged with Blizzard in 2022.
