After its initial release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 almost two years ago, God of War Ragnarok finally made its way onto PC last week. While legions of the game’s fans applauded as they eagerly dove back into Kratos and Atreus’ adventure, some players were instantly irritated by the PSN account requirement.
While a mod on NexusMods gave fans a way to bypass this requirement, the mod’s creator, iArtorias, has removed it to avoid any potential action from Sony.
“That was my personal decision because the mod has got too much attention (even IGN and PC Gamer) wrote an article about it,” the creator said in a statement to NexusMods (via PSU).
“I thought that it would be better to remove it from public to avoid any potential threats from the Sony side (even though the project never modified anything in memory related to Sony products, but better be safe than sorry). I am sorry that it happened, but I cannot really put myself into risk since it was unclear.”
The God of War Ragnarok PC port has seen other criticisms as well, with some players seeing issues with their mouse and controller simply not working. Others report the game crashing immediately upon challenging the first boss. The game also takes up a whopping 175GB of storage space.
God of War Ragnarok was released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in November 2022. The game sold 5.1 million copies in its first week alone, making it the fastest-selling first-party launch week in PlayStation history. Ragnarok also received 11 nominations at The Game Awards 2022, winning six including Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, and Best Action/Adventure.
The first remake, God of War, was released in 2018. Universally acclaimed and cited as one of the best games ever made, it sold 23 million copies by November 2022 and won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018.
