Resident Evil fans waited for the PlayStation State of Play event yesterday. There were mixed reports that Capcom would be bringing out their next Resident Evil game for a public presentation. However, that didn’t happen, and fans are waiting to see when we’ll finally get our first glimpse of Resident Evil 9. Today, we’re learning that the developers are being very ambitious with this upcoming mainline installment.
The development team at Capcom is working on Resident Evil 9, despite nothing official being ready for the public. Marketing materials are still kept out of the public eye, but we’re getting small tidbits of information thanks to insiders. Dusk Golem is an insider with a strong following for sharing details about Resident Evil before their grand reveals. Today, the insider claims that the developers need a 90+ score as it’s essentially one of their goals for this release.
Dusk Golem took to X and unveiled that Resident Evil 9 developers want that 90+ score because they haven’t received this level of success for a mainline installment. Instead, the last time a new mainline installment saw this kind of positive and critical reception was decades ago with the release of Resident Evil 4. As a result, the developers are working extra hard to ensure that it will be a huge hit when this new installment is released.
Of course, we’re still waiting for details for Resident Evil 9. We last left off on a new mainline Resident Evil installment with Resident Evil Village. The game saw the conclusion of the Ethan Winters storyline, so it’s a bit of a guessing game where the story is going to take players next. But with the State of Play not mentioning the franchise, we’ll have to wait and see just when Capcom is ready to bring the IP back out on stage for the world to see.
