‘Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that both Dino Crisis and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain will join the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog for both Extra and Premium subscribers (via Gematsu). No exact release dates have been given, but the titles are expected by the end of 2024.
Dino Crisis artwork first appeared on the PlayStation Network in 2022, though nothing came of it until now. Last month, Shinji Mikami, the creator of the franchise, expressed shock upon hearing that so many fans are eager for a new game.
“The awesomeness of dinosaurs and the stuff you can do with dinosaurs, that’s been kind of really nailed down by Monster Hunter in recent years,” Mikami said.
“So even if I were to decide to make a remake or a new version of Dino Crisis, I don’t really feel like there’s a whole lot of space for that kind of game right now, just since Monster Hunter has become such a big game. But yeah, it is surprising.”
The first Dino Crisis game was released in 1999 to huge fanfare. It was followed by two sequels, with the last game, Dino Crisis 3, released in 2003.
First released in 1996, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is the first title in the cult classic Legacy of Kain series. A follow-up title, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, was released in 1999.
During yesterday’s State of Play presentation, it was announced that Legacy of Kain and its sequel will receive a remastered collection. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on December 10, 2024.
