If you didn’t know, this week is “Geeked Week” over at Netflix, which is where the streaming platform drops all sorts of teasers and first looks at shows that they’ll be releasing over the next year or so. Another thing you might want to recall is that Netflix has several anime-style adaptations of video game franchises in the works right now, and one of them is Devil May Cry. The Capcom series has had the animated treatment before, but this is something fresh and new, and it’s done by the same guy who brought the Belmonts and Dracula to life on Netflix with great success.
The trailer you can watch below doesn’t dive too deeply into the story itself, but it does highlight the most important thing about the series: Dante. Half-demon and half-human, he’s the guy you hire if you have a demon problem, and don’t mind his “devil may care” attitude regarding how he gets the job done. He’ll get it done, but he’ll do it in a style befitting him. What the trailer highlights is all the action, style, and violence that the Devil May Cry anime will have when it drops.
Studio Mir is the team behind the show, and they are easily some of the best animators out there, which means that this will be super slick and stylish. You can see that for yourselves by watching the trailer below:
If you think about it, this is the perfect kind of adaptation to have for Dante’s story. After all, it features a guy hunting demons while demons are attempting to take over the world. There’s plenty of twists and surprises via Dante’s brother, Vergil, and other characters can be added in over time to make things even more interesting, like Trish.
Plus, with the numerous weapons and skills that Dante has from the games to unleash on foes, they could all slowly be put into the anime to keep everything fun and not repeat everything they’ve done before. Obviously, it’s up to Netflix to determine how long this series could go. However, it should be noted that the other series we mentioned had not only a four-season run but it also got a spinoff that is gearing up for its next season. So, while Netflix does have a reputation for canceling things far too soon, this could be the exception to the rule if people watch it.
We’ll find out whether that works out in April 2025.
