If you were a fan of Mortal Kombat 1, then you’re undoubtedly ready for the fun and violence that’s about to drop in the “Khaos Reigns” expansion that arrives on September 24th. The story will bring many new elements into the mix while also expanding the game’s roster even further. Today, a new launch trailer for the content arrived, and with it, a glimpse at all the bloodshed, brutality, and animal-style kills that await players who get it via the second Kombat Pack. Trust us, this is going to be something special, and that doesn’t even touch on the DLC characters you’ll get.
Very loosely, on a day that should’ve been a celebration for our Kombatants, Havik arrived in a new form and with even more powers. He’s determined to turn the entire collection of realms into one where chaos is the dominant factor, and all are transformed into his image. That’s how we get this new version of Noob Saibot, as he was Sub-Zero before being transformed by Havik’s madness.
To defeat this anarchy-fueled villain, Liu Kang will have to bring not only the fighters of Earthrealm to bear but bring in many other allies who weren’t exactly “on his side” in the past, including Sektor and Cyrax. These two ladies are much different versions of the “robot ninjas” you knew from before, but they still kick a lot of butt, so you won’t want to get in their way.
The trailer takes plenty of time to show off the new moves, characters, and ways to kill opponents, including the return of “Animalities,” where the Kombatants transform into various animals to defeat their opponents. Plus, we get a tease of the DLC characters outside of the trio you’ll get from the story expansion.
In fact, we get a first look at the Fatality of Ghostface, where he teams up with another Ghostface to stab a person to death in horror movie fashion. This seems to imply that he’ll be the first of the 3rdparty characters to arrive in the Kombat Pack 2. Check out the full trailer below:
Other little things that are being added to this expansion include new outfits, Kameos and more. NetherRealm Studios has said previously that this is simply “Year Two” for Mortal Kombat 1’s content, so even with the result of this story, no matter what it is, there is more to come, and that makes it all the more exciting that this content is coming soon.
