The Sims is an iconic franchise that has been around for ages. We’ve seen several mainline installments released along with countless spin-off titles. However, this IP’s next big venture might take you away from PCs and consoles and into the movie theater. A movie adaptation has officially been unveiled for the game franchise.
EA is bringing The Sims to the big screen, and it might deliver in a big way. The inspiration behind this project was the recent Barbie movie, which did quite well. EA recently posted on their blog that a movie was being worked on, but we learned a little more about the film thanks to a report from Variety.
Variety spoke with Kate Gorman, EA’s vice president and general manager of The Sims. During their conversation, the topic of wanting to bring out something as impactful as the Barbie movie was discussed. It’s noted that there is so much love and nostalgia for the franchise. As a result, the movie aims to reflect the franchise’s incredible history.
We wanted the right partners and to make an impact the size of something like a ‘Barbie’ movie is exactly what we want. And we know there’s so much love and nostalgia, probably beyond what we would even realize, for ‘The Sims’ and so many people like us have played throughout generations. So we want this to be an experience that reflects all that amazing history and play of so many people in this world, but also is something that you can share across generations and to be part of pop culture and culturally relevant. – Kate Gorman
Of course, we’re just at the announcement stage of this project, so it might be a good ways off before we get any of the finer details. Still, that hasn’t stopped some fans from expressing their interest online about what they hope to see show up. For example, we’re interested to see how much of the Simlish language will end up being featured, as I’m sure that will be an easter egg in itself.
There will be Freezer Bunnies. I’m sure a pool without a ladder is somewhere in there, but we haven’t finalized any of those details. But that’s the idea, is to say that it lives within this space. It’s a nod to all of the amazing play and creation and fun that people have had over the last 25 years within ‘The Sims. – Kate Gorman
In other news regarding this franchise, it was recently unveiled that there is no interest in bringing out The Sims 5. Instead, the developers will continue supporting The Sims 4 with new content to keep players from having to restart their gameplay experience again with a new installment.
