Oh, it’s that time of year again! Yes, it’s time to talk about whether a Nintendo Direct is coming out very soon! This should hardly be a surprise to some of you, as the talk of a Direct has been happening since last month when Nintendo shocked everyone with its combo of an Indie World Showcase and a Partner’s Showcase. Many thought it was odd that The Big N would lump all those 3rd party reveals, some of which were significant, into one showing. The “answer” they came to was that this was likely because a separate Direct was coming in September.
This isn’t a “random thought,” either, as multiple insiders have been pointing to a Nintendo Direct of “important standing” happening this month, and as a couple of members of VGC pointed out, there’s been a Direct every single September since the Nintendo Switch came out. That’s what you would call “a tradition unlike any other. So, the implication here is that we’re on the cusp of getting a Direct.
Now, obviously, that doesn’t mean we WILL get one, as The Big N hasn’t been afraid to break tradition in the past, as last month showed, however, as the dates above highlight, we HAVE gotten Direct’s around this date in the past. They really liked the 13th and 14th for some reason. Either way, we could get one this week, or maybe next week, it’s all up to Nintendo.
As for what they would focus on in this Direct, all the latest rumors have been focused on the Nintendo Switch 2. That’s right, this Direct is potentially about Nintendo’s next console and what you can expect from it. If you’ve been paying attention to our site, you’ll know that multiple Switch 2 rumors/reports have been dropping, indicating some of the “key features” that the next hardware platform will have.
Whether it’s accurate or not is immaterial, but if Nintendo drops a Direct and reveals everything, we’ll be set.
The important thing to note is that even if the Direct is about the Switch 2, it won’t be coming out for a while. The Big N already admitted that it won’t come out until the next fiscal year, which starts in April. That’s why there have been many gaming announcements for the OG Switch, including for a title that drops next week!
It’s key to remember that this is all speculation and rumor. While it’s nice to be excited about a potential Direct, don’t be too disappointed if one doesn’t show up.
