Today is a big day for fighting game fans, as Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection Arcade Classics has finally arrived! This collection has been something fans have been looking forward to since its announcement in June due to many of these games not being playable anywhere! We’re talking all-time classic fighting titles featuring the Marvel and Capcom characters, and fans are ready to embrace the nostalgia that comes with it. However, there is a small catch with this. While many are excited about this, and many will likely buy it to enjoy it, and there are even some “follow-ups” to this collection that we already know about, the franchise’s future is still in doubt.
After all, while this collection is nice, it’s not a new thing. Instead, it’s just an update of multiple older things, with one of them being a title that never got translated to the West. Regardless, there are many who don’t want this to be the end. They’d rather Marvel and Capcom come together to make something new and bring the franchise back to life once again. The good news is that producer Shuhei Matsumoto feels the same way, as he talked with ComicBook.com and said:
“Who wouldn’t want to release a new installment of the series? At least our team and I have the desire to release one. While commercial achievement may be one factor, I personally think that is merely transitory. I think the fans who continue to cheer us on and show their support for the series are more powerful. This is especially the case since this is a project that can’t be realized by Capcom alone.”
So there you have it! If you want this series to get a new entry, you must make your voice heard! This is the internet; you have plenty of ways to be heard!
However, fans may be cautious of this plea, as we can’t forget that the last “mainline entry” in Marvel vs Capcom was so bad and poorly received that it basically killed the series then and there. That was the dark time when Marvel and Fox were arguing over character rights due to decisions from the late 1990s, and it led to the roster not featuring many Marvel mainstays out of spite, basically ruining much of the experience. Plus, the graphics weren’t the best, the gameplay wasn’t as tight, and more!
So, if a new entry is made, they need to acknowledge the mistakes of the past and NOT do that kind of thing again.
