Player reception to Astro Bot, released last week for PlayStation 5, has been exceptional, with many calling for the title to be added as a Game of the Year nominee and with dozens of outlets giving it a 10/10. The developers at Team Asobi have been eagerly sharing their journey in a series of new behind-the-scenes videos, with the newest upload focusing on the many PlayStation cameos found throughout the platformer.
In the game, players have 300 bots to rescue, with 150 of these characters representing PlayStation cameos. Astro can borrow special abilities from memorable heroes on his adventure.
While many of the cameos will instantly be recognizable to players, such as Kratos from God of War and Aloy from Horizon, some more obscure characters can be found throughout the title, including Ulala from Space Channel 5, Shibito from Siren, and Quill from Moss.
Team Asobi has announced that the game will receive DLC in the future, including 10 additional challenge levels and five speedrun levels. No release date for this additional content has been announced.
The title has been in development for over three years, with many outlets proclaiming it one of the best games Sony has ever made. Last week, it was announced that Astro Bot is 2024’s highest-rated standalone game, according to Metacritic.
Astro Bot was released on September 6 for PlayStation 5. Last month, the game’s creative director Nicolas Doucet explained that while the title has no plans to come to the PlayStation VR2, Astro Bot may come to PC in the future if there is enough player interest.
