We recently had the official reveal of the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro. The console was highly rumored and speculated to be in the works, and we just had the official PS5 Pro confirmation this week. Sony is hyping it up by showcasing how much better games will perform and look. But that doesn’t mean some of your biggest anticipated titles will see a drastic improvement over the standard PS5 console.
For instance, one of the most anticipated games to be released this coming year is Grand Theft Auto VI. The title had been elusive for years as fans waited for an official announcement trailer to drop. That finally changed last December when Rockstar Games revealed what players can expect when Grand Theft Auto VI launches.
Rockstar Games looks to push the envelope in new, grander ways with each installment. Vice City has never looked better, and while we are hopeful it will deliver in a big way, don’t expect your PS5 Pro to be capable of pushing 4k 60fps. That’s at least what Richard Leadbetter told IGN. If you’re unfamiliar with Richard Leadbetter, this is an editor at Digital Foundry, a publication that dives deep into tech. They have a solid track record and provide incredibly detailed insights into various hardware performances.
Richard recently stated that they don’t anticipate the PlayStation 5 Pro being capable of pushing 4k 60fps for Grand Theft Auto VI. The reason is that Grand Theft Auto games typically run complex simulations, which push the CPU. We know that the PS5 Pro has the same CPU as the standard PlayStation 5, and as a result, it’s not likely to provide much of a boost in performance.
That said, Grand Theft Auto VI will likely still look better on the PS5 Pro, but that’s about the extent of what you can expect from this console. That might be a bummer for some of you to read, but as Richard noted, this could change if Rockstar Games targeted a 60fps base on the standard PlayStation 5 console. However, there has been no evidence that this is the case.
Regardless, seeing just how well the PlayStation 5 Pro does in the marketplace will be interesting. We have noticed quite a few reports and comments that are not thrilled with the price of this console. You’ll find it coming in at $699.99 at launch. That’s also not including a disc drive, which you will need to purchase separately if you want to run physical media. At the same time, those looking to pick up a standard PlayStation 5 might finally get some decent discounts, as even Sony will be selling refurbished units soon.
