Double Fine Productions has been around for ages. Founded in 2000, the studio eventually became part of the Xbox brand in 2019. So, with that still recent acquisition, some fans were hopeful that Double Fine would get their hands on some of Microsoft’s beloved IPs sitting in the shadows waiting for a revival.
Microsoft has a long line of IPs that it now owns. Recently, PlayStation saw some positive reception over the launch of Astro Bot, and naturally, that had Xbox fans wondering what their next platformer might be. If it were up to some fans, Xbox would be digging into some of the classic platformer franchises it has in possession and allowing Double Fine Productions to give it its unique spin.
Thanks to The Gamer, we’re finding out that fans recently mentioned two particular Microsoft IPs that they hoped Double Fine Productions would pick up. Those games were Banjo-Kazooie and Conker. After all, Double Fine’s latest release into the marketplace was 2021’s Psychonauts 2, a well-received platformer.
Unfortunately, neither of the game projects was of interest to the studio. Double Fine Productions noted that they want to make their own games. So, those of you who were fans of both franchises are still having to wait for Xbox to dust these IPs off and give them to another studio to bring out a grand revival.
As for Double Fine Productions, we’re waiting to see what the studio brings out into the marketplace next. Psychonauts 2 was their latest release from 2021. If you haven’t given that game a chance, it’s available for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. We also have a Before You Buy video coverage of the game, which you can view below.
