Hero Shooter MOBA Title Deadlock Already Has Cheaters

September 9, 2024 by Carley Garcia

Someone always ruins it for everyone else.

Despite not being officially released, Valve’s upcoming hero shooter/MOBA hybrid Deadlock is already seeing some bad apples.

Currently, the title is in its closed beta stage, with those participating able to invite their friends. Pulling in a concurrent player count of over 100,000 as of August 2024, the game is already proving to be wildly popular, but unfortunately, cheaters are already ruining things.

One user on the Steam subreddit posted a video showing evidence of cheaters in the game. The video clip appears to show someone using an aimbot, as well as another player shooting through a solid wall. It also shows one player bending their shots around a wall, frustrating the community further.

“There aren’t even any stakes right now, no leaderboards, no ranks, etc,” one player responded. “What a sad existence must one have to cheat in a public alpha test.”

While many Valve fans were aware of the studio’s upcoming title in some capacity, Deadlock remained an open secret until it was officially announced in August. In 2021, Valve co-founder and CEO Gabe Newell said that the company had a number of games in active development, with a focus on more single-player experiences.

“They do it in obscure games with 59 players too,” another player replied in the Reddit thread. “If they can ruin your day that makes them happy. That’s their goal, to ruin your fun and ‘win’.”

A full release date for Deadlock has not yet been announced. The closed beta is currently in progress on PC.
