Astro Bot Celebrates Release Day With New Live-Action Trailer

September 6, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The platformer is already getting applause from all sides.

Astro Bot is finally here, with PlayStation 5 owners now able to dive into the peppy new platformer from Team Asobi. To celebrate the game’s launch, some fun new videos have appeared online, along with a smile-inducing live-action trailer.

“Board Astro’s trusty Dual Speeder and get ready for an amazing adventure through spectacular worlds that are full of fun, secrets, and surprises,” the game’s description says. “The PS5 mothership has been wrecked by Astro’s alien rival, leaving his crew scattered across multiple galaxies. Can you help Astro rescue his stranded bot buddies and rebuild the mothership?”

There will be 300 bots for Astro to rescue in the title, with around 150 of these characters representing well-known PlayStation characters. Team Asobi also teased that Astro will borrow special abilities from some memorable PlayStation heroes on his adventure.

The title has been in development for over three years, with many outlets already proclaiming it one of the best games Sony has ever made. Yesterday, it was announced that Astro Bot is 2024’s highest-rated standalone game, according to Metacritic.

Team Asobi has announced that the game will receive DLC in the future, including 10 additional challenge levels and five speedrun levels. No release date for this additional content has been announced.

Astro Bot was released today, September 6, for PlayStation 5. Last month, the game’s creative director Nicolas Doucet explained that while the title has no plans to come to the PlayStation VR2, Astro Bot may come to PC in the future if there is enough player interest.
