Stalker 2 Currently Runs 35 FPS On Xbox Series S – Developer Explains Earlier Misquote

September 2, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Sometimes devs just say the wrong thing, like the rest of us.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is currently running at a minimum of 35 FPS on Xbox Series S. The reason it got reported that it was running at only 25 FPS is a story in itself.

Last week, GSC Game World was interviewed about the optimization of the game on Xbox consoles by WCCFTech. In the interview, Lead Producer Slava Lukyanenka was the one who stated that the game was currently running at a minimum of 25 FPS on Xbox Series S.

Shortly after that interview, Lukyanenka went on Twitter with this statement:

“Just to clarify my thoughts, I said something during the interview on Gamescom.

Yes, that’s what I said.

However, it seems something glitched in my head during the interview, as I wanted to say ‘around 35 FPS’

In practice, the optimization on Series S is well undergoing.

Some parts of the game may be slightly below target now (hence the head glitch), but on average, Stalker 2 runs on 34-36

We aim to launch on Series S with at least 30 FPS in every part of the Zone.

There is no drama about it, just some work to be finished.”

WCCFTech has since updated their article to provide this corrected quote, explaining the current performance metrics for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S:

“On Xbox Series X, we have two available modes. One of them is Performance Mode, where STALKER 2 is running with 60 FPS and slightly different graphics than in Quality Mode, which looks super awesome with all the reflections and high-resolution textures, but runs at 30 FPS.

We are trying to achieve a similar experience on Xbox Series S by combining these two approaches. So far, we have it at 35ish FPS on the Xbox Series S, but we still have space to optimize.”

Based on GSC Game World’s statement, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl won’t have two performance modes on Xbox Series S. Instead, it will simply be optimized to get the best performance and visual quality on the console. They already claimed to have the game running at 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X two weeks ago, so it seems safe to assume that they can reach this goal as well. While many games honestly do launch with that work still unfinished, GSC Game World should have enough time left to get these goals met and then some.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be launching on November 20, 2024, on Xbox Series X|S and Windows, on Steam, Epic Game Store and GOG. It will also be Day One Game Pass.
