Astro Bot Gets Launch Trailer Ahead of September 6 Release

August 30, 2024 by Carley Garcia

Team Asobi has also released a behind the scenes look at the upcoming platformer.

One week before the release of Astro Bot on September 6, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Team Asobi has released a launch trailer for the highly anticipated 3D platformer. Additionally, the dev team posted the first of five behind-the-scenes episodes, giving gamers a more in-depth look at how the title was developed.

In the trailer, players get a better look at Handy-D, a monkey on Astro’s back that allows the character to climb, swing, and slam enemies. Additionally, Astro’s iron armor will let him traverse spiky areas and fit inside tight spaces, among other things.

There will be 300 bots to rescue in the title, with around 150 of these characters being PlayStation cameos. Team Asobi also teased that Astro will borrow special abilities from some memorable PlayStation heroes on his adventure.

Players are urged to collect four special bots in Astro’s Playroom, pre-loaded on every PlayStation 5. Once these characters are rescued, they can be added to player’s teams in Astro Bot at launch.

The developers have confirmed that no microtransactions will be implemented in the title.  “No, each planet already has plenty of coins to find and spend in the Gatcha Lab,” the game’s website reads.

The Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which can be pre-ordered now, includes numerous unlocks, including:

  • Astro’s “Yharnam Tourist” (Bloodborne) outfit
  • Astro’s “Golden” outfit
  • Dual Speeder “Neon Dream” paint color
  • Dual Speeder “Champion’s Gold” paint color
  • Official soundtrack composed by Kenneth C.M. Young
  • Digital art gallery
  • 10 Astro avatars

The game is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5 on September 6. Recently, the game’s creative director Nicolas Doucet said that while the game will never come to the PlayStation VR2, Astro Bot may come to PC in the future if there is enough interest.
