Fallout fans have had a bit of a resurgence lately for the franchise. Newcomers to the IP have flocked toward the past installments, and there’s an active community for Fallout 76. This excitement stems from the hit Amazon Prime TV series Fallout. That show blew up online, and fans couldn’t get enough of it. So, while the season was quickly binge-watched and talked about online, video games were the next best thing to season two. Of course, that also means plenty of players are wondering about Fallout 5.
We don’t know anything about Fallout 5 quite yet. It’s a game that will be kept under wraps for a good while. However, that doesn’t stop fans from speculating about what could happen behind the scenes. Some of these speculations are that the online multiplayer RPG installment for the franchise Fallout 76 is hampering the development process for Fallout 5. But that’s not the case according to the creative director behind Fallout 76.
TheGamer recently spoke with Jon Rush, the creative director behind Fallout 76. During their conversation, they discussed whether Fallout 76 development support is also slowing down the process for Fallout 5. According to Jon, he could personally see how some players on the outside might have that viewpoint, but they would be wrong.
Absolutely not. I can understand that perspective, watching from the outside in, but no, absolutely not. If anything, when Fallout 5 does come out, it’ll make it even more impactful. But [Fallout 76] isn’t holding anything back. – Jon Rush
There are more than enough resources to ensure that Fallout 5 won’t take any hit from the sounds of things. But it’s also a game we might not see for a long while. Bethesda is working hard right now with DLC for Starfield, which will arrive first. Afterward, the focus would seemingly turn toward the next installment of The Elder Scrolls franchise. As a result, Fallout 5 is likely a game well off in the distance.
That said, there’s always the Fallout TV series to keep us entertained. Likewise, Fallout 76 is still supported, and as mentioned earlier, more players have been logging into the game since the TV series. So gather some friends and enjoy the wasteland together.
