We’ve had some fun times on Metal Gear Online, but all good things come to an end, And Metal Gear Online will shut down on June 12.
The online shop for the game will close first, shutting down on March 21st, with the next step in phasing the game out coming with disabling character registration and creation as of April 24. On the same date, however, Konami will make all DLC for Metal Gear Online available for free.
Launched in 2008, Metal Gear Online was released alongside Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The online game was also available as a separate download in Japan. While not the most successful of online games in comparison to, say, Call of Duty, the shooter still managed to find itself with over 1 million users worldwide.
Metal Gear Online wasn’t the most functional of online games, but it was (in true Kojima style) a breeding ground for sheer insanity. It will be missed.
