We have new rumors that Valve is actually working on 2 Half-Life games right now.
Our source for this is Tyler McVicker, FKA Valve News Network. Tyler revealed earlier this month that Valve is making a Half-Life game codenamed HLX, and that he believes that this title is actually Half-Life 3.
We would like to make it clear that Tyler found HLX from datamining, and not from insider sources speaking from within the company. Other dataminers, like GabeFollower, have independently verified and talked about HLX.
In Tyler’s latest video, he revealed that he believes Valve is preparing ‘something’ for Half-Life 2. This is because when the original Half-Life had its 25 year anniversary last year, Valve made a huge update to its Steam release. That update included fixes to many very old bugs, 4K and Steam Deck support, and a lot of additional content.
Tyler says that he saw a new testing branch appear on Half-Life 2’s code. He monitored the data for updates last Thursday. Thursday is usually when Steam’s systems have its lowest traffic, and that’s the reason that Valve publishes their updates on that day. Disappointingly, Tyler says that there are no updates for now, but he is sure that ‘something’ is going to be released on that date. For what it’s worth, Half-Life 2 was originally released on November 16, 2004.
Tyler then explained that he investigated a lead from another influencer named pyro, who made the claim about 2 Half-Life games in production. To be clear, this Half-Life 2 anniversary update is not one of those two rumored games in development, and these are completely new games. Tyler already knew that HLX, AKA Half-Life 3, is not ready to release just quite yet. He tried to get information, and confirmed that Deckard, Valve’s next VR headset, is still in production.
So, Tyler, believes that the Deckard could get a Half-Life game to showcase it’s capabilities, in the same way that Valve produced Half-Life Alyx. Tyler then brings back an earlier rumor that Valve was making a co-op Half-Life game, where one player, on the PC, was playing Gordon Freeman, while the other player, on a VR headset, was playing Alyx Vance. He speculates, with no backing from his sources, that this could be such a game that would be made for the Deckard.
Tyler concludes by saying that the Half-Life Alyx team is deep in development right now, so they are likely the team working on these one or two Half-Lifegames that are in development right now. It would certainly be interesting if Valve really is pushing through with the Deckard, with the challenges Apple and Sony has seen in their VR businesses. But, these are all rumors for now, and we won’t know for sure how much of these are true unless they are finalized into real products, and finally come through. You can watch Tyler’s video below.
